Having specific goals for what you are looking
for in a romantic partner will help you to focus your feng shui efforts
and to define the affirmations and visualizations that you will use to
empower your changes. You may find that you have both short- and long-term
goals for how you want to change your love life. For example, you may
want to meet someone interesting today, but that doesn't mean you'll be
ready to say "I do" tomorrow-even if marriage is an important long-term
goal for you.
JOURNALING
The nine areas of the ba gua provide a useful
framework for exploring relationship goals. Here are some questions that
you can ask yourself, based on the life aspirations defined by the ba
gua. Refer to the ba gua chart on page 188 for additional meanings to
explore.

(relationships)
How important is marriage, in both the long and short term? How do you
want to be treated in a relationship?
- Dui
(children and creativity)
How important are childen, and what are the specific issues involved
(such as, if you already have kids or have a strong desire to have or
not have a baby)? How would you feel about getting involved with someone
who already has children of his or her own?How important is creativity
to you? What time, space, or financial resources do you need for your
creative work?

(helpful friends and travel)
What kind of support will you need from your partner? What, if anything,
could you not be supportive of? Will frequent travel by you or your
partner be a problem? Are you open to a long-distance romance? Are you
willing to relocate for love? To where, or how far?
- Kan
(career)
Will getting involved in a serious relationship affect your career,
and if so, how? What career compromises are you willing (or not) to
make in order to sustain a successful relationship?
- Ken
(self-understanding, knowledge, spirituality)
How important is a shared religious background or practice? If you have
or want children, how do you plan to raise them? Do you have plans for
future education, such as graduate studies, that might affect a relationship?
- Jen
(family)
What, if any, family issues might impact a future relationship, and
in what ways?
- Hsun
(wealth)
How important is it to you to find a partner who is financially successful
or independent? What expectations do you have about shared or divided
financial responsibility? Do you have any personal money issues, such
as a large debt, that could impact a future relationship?

(fame and reputation)
How do you want others to perceive your relationship? What words would
they use to describe it?
