Watch for a new Give-Away in our next issue.

Astrology for Feng Shui - Part 2: This is the second part of a three-part article. If you missed Part 1, you can read it here: Avoiding the "Void of Course" Moon
The moon moves through each sign of the Zodiac over a period of roughly two and a half days. As the moon moves through each sign, the qualities (especially emotional qualities) of that sign will tend to be emphasized. For example, while the Moon is in Aries ego issues tend to surface, and people may be more sarcastic or quick-tempered than usual. If your employee evaluation is scheduled when the moon is in Aries, see if you can get it postponed for a few days. As the Moon transits Libra, people tend to be more sociable and relaxed, so it's a good time to host or attend a party. The introductory paragraph in the daily astrology column in your local newspaper often includes a sentence or two about what's going on with the moon and what to expect from that influence over the next day or two. For those who don't wish to pay daily attention to Moon signs, there's a quicker and easier way to keep an eye out for the days when the Moon's energy will most (or least) support you. The days when the Moon is passing through your Sun sign, things are more likely to go your way. These are good days to gain the support, cooperation, and assistance of others, or to get your point across to higher-ups. For example, my sun sign is Libra, so I keep an eye on the calendar for days when the moon is in Libra and schedule important activities or phone calls for those days. When the Moon is in the sign opposite your sun sign, it may seem as if no one is listening to you, and that nothing is going your way. These are good days to stick to business-as-usual activities rather than attempting anything new or asking for cooperation, support, or commitment from others. I check the calendar for days when the moon is in Aries, so I know when to lay low and not try to do too much.
MOON PHASES Moon phases offer another opportunity for scheduling activities to your best advantage. The day of the NEW MOON is a good time to start new project, such as pitching ideas to the boss, signing contracts, launching an advertising campaign, moving, or getting married, to name a few examples. Make major purchases, such as a new car, at the new moon (use the weeks before the new moon to research and shop, but hold off on purchasing until the new moon). If you are changing jobs, try to arrange to begin work on or shortly after the new moon. This is also a good time to go on a diet or change other habits that affect health and well-being. The new moon is a good time to place new feng shui cures and enhancements, empower (or re-empower) cures that were put into place at another time, or to start a new ritual such as a cash flow cure. The day of the new moon is also an excellent time for a house blessing ceremony. The moon is WAXING (appearing to grow larger) for the two weeks between the new and fullmoons. This is a good time to follow up on the projects you began at the new moon, researching and absorbing information, developing your plans in greater detail, and taking initial steps forward. Look for new approaches and alternatives to try out during the waxing moon phase. If you have planned feng shui-related activities that will take several days to complete, such as repainting your home, the waxing moon is a good time to tackle them. Think of this as your "get down to business" phase. The FULL MOON tends to be a time of increased emotional volatility (as police officers and emergency room personnel will attest), so it's wise to avoid sensitive issues for the few days around the full moon, both at home and at work. It's not a good time to introduce new methods or systems that will need to be adopted by others, as you are likely to encounter resistance. Meetings may not go smoothly, and tempers may flare, the upside of which is that this is a good time to explore underlying issues and bring them to the surface. The full moon is a good time to bring projects to completion, If you can't arrange to begin a new short-term venture or project at the new moon, another good option is to time it to end just before or at the full moon. The WANING phase between the full and new moon is a good time to focus on getting things done and catching up on stuff you've been meaning to tackle. This is an excellent time to focus on breaking old limiting habits and de-stressing, so go on that diet, quit smoking, or schedule your dental or massage appointment during this time. In feng shui terms, the waning days of the moon are an excellent time to clear out your clutter, do a space clearing, or to prepare for the new projects you plan to begin at the next New Moon. In Part 3 of this article series, coming up in the next issue, I'll share why I keep an eye on the motion of key planets so I can avoid certain kinds of activites during what is called a "retrograde" period. Shui Q+A (Most questions will have been edited for clarity and length, and any identifying details have been changed. Please note that due to the high volume of email I receive, it is no longer possible for me to respond to every question personally. I still welcome your questions, and if I cannot provide a personal response I will try to address your issue in a future Q+A column.) Q: My kitchen is in the Fame area, and I think it has too much wood and metal going on. What would be a good color to paint the kitchen? I don't want to use red, so I was thinking of yellow, orange, or even pink. A: You are right to be cautious about too much metal energy (colors or materials) in the Fame area. Fire controls (melts) metal, but its own energy is weakened by that effort, so having metal here will weaken the fire energy associated with this area. Be aware, though, that the yellow and orange you mention are also not recommended. Fire creates earth, so these earth-type colors will reduce the fire energy. Pink is a shade of red, so it is an option. However, pink is generally associted with kun gua--the Relationships/Marriage--area, andmay not be the best choice for your kitchen or for Fame. There is no reason to be concerned about wood colors here, however. Wood nourishes fire, so it's a supportive element to have in the fame area. Instead of green paint, you might also consider using a wallpaper with a leafy or floral patterns with green as the primary color. I'd recommend a pale shade of green, rather than pink, for the kitchen. Spice it up with some red accents such as for your cannisters, cabinet knobs and drawer pulls, dish towels, etc.
