Making
the Most of Your Wealth Generator Many people become interested in feng shui because they hear that it can help to enhance financial well-being, increase money luck, and attract a more abundant cash flow. With these tantalizing goals in mind, they rush to find the Wealth area of their home and lose no time filling it up with Chinese coins, wealth vases, lucky cat figurines and all sorts of luck-enhancing images and objects. All of these are fine feng shui tactics, but there's another wealth area that is often overlooked: the kitchen stove. In ancient cultures the hearth fire was accorded sacred meaning, and was often located in the center of the home. Feng shui recognizes the symbolic importance of the cookstove as the heart of the home and the place where we receive Nature's blessings in the form of physical nourishment. If the kitchen has good feng shui, the thinking goes, the cook will be relaxed and happy. This good energy will be transferred to the food being prepared, which will taste good, so we eat well. Eating well helps to keep us healthy and strong, we therefore are able to work hard and earn more money. Bad feng shui in the kitchen, on the other hand, creates an environment where the cook is tense and unhappy, the food is poorly prepared, we eat less well, lose our strength, and are no longer able to produce a good income. This sequence of events may seem far-fetched in an era when most of us earn our living through sedentary professions rather than through physical exertion, and when overeating is more of a health problem than malnourishment. Nevertheless, feng shui regards your kitchen stove as the "Wealth Generator" for your home and family, and it deserves some of your feng shui attention. Here are the three most important things you can do to help your family prosper financially by keeping the chi of your Wealth Generator strong and active: 1. Make sure that every part of your stove is working the way it should. Do all the burners work? Does the light in the oven go on when you open the door? Does the oven heat accurately? If your stove includes a clock or timer, is it set to the correct time? Pay special attention to the back burner on the left: visualize the ba gua placed over the stovetop, and you'll see that this burner is in the Wealth position. If this burner is not functioning properly it can have a serious impact on your financial health. In general, any problems with the mechanical functioning of your stove are likely to indicate problems with your ability to earn or hold onto money. 2. Keep your stove -- and the rest of your kitchen - immaculately clean. Dirt is a form of sha chi (negative energy), and a dirty stove can crud up your money flow faster than anything. Plus, crumbs and drips are unsightly and attract bugs, another sign of deteriorating chi. Ants and roaches in the kitchen mean there's yucky energy around, so set out some roach motels and grab that bottle of oven cleaner. While you're at it, take out the garbage before it starts to smell, too. Bad smells of any kind are a sign of bad chi, and that nasty kitchen trash can is a frequent culprit. I have worked with quite a few clients with less-than-pristine kitchens, and every one of them complained of money problems. 3. Use it or lose it! At the other end of the spectrum from lackluster housekeepers are the clients who don't cook. Their kitchens may be spotlessly clean, but it's because they are never used. A stove that is never used is like a field left unplowed; all that potential prosperity goes unharvested. If your meal preparations are limited to ordering in or pushing the buttons on your microwave, make a point of using your stove once a day for 27 days, even if all you do is boil water for a cup of tea. Vary which burner you use, so they all see equal action, and have the strong intention that as you turn the stove on each day you are activating your Wealth Generator. No discussion of kitchen chi would be complete without mentioning the importance of the Command Position. Basically, if your stove is positioned so that you face the wall with your back to the room, you are in a vulnerable position while you cook. The recommended cure is to hang a mirror over the stove so that you are able to see behind you. If you can, position the mirror so that the stovetop is also reflected in it: this symbolically doubles the burners and, by implication, doubles your money! Keep your stove functioning and looking as shiny and new as possible, shine up that tea kettle and use it from time to time, and you may find that your financial life has taken on a new shine as well.
