Relationship Tips - Part 1 This is the first of a multi-part series of quick tips, one for each of the five stages of the feng shui Relationship Cycle presented in Fast Feng Shui for Singles: 108 Ways to Heal Your Home and Attract Romance. The Fast Feng Shui Relationship Cycle is based on the Creative Cycle of the five elements. Each stage of the cycle is associated with the element whose qualities, characteristics, and energy most closely match your situation and goals at that stage of relationship. Phase 1: CENTERING The Relationship Cycle begins with Centering, which is associated with the contracting, inward-focused energy of the Metal element. In this stage you are not in a relationship and are not actively dating. Centering is a time for rediscovering your sense of self and for creating a strong foundation for being an equal partner in your next relationship. In this stage, your feng shui strategies focus on helping to release past relationships, heal a lonely or wounded heart, and prepare for a new romance. CENTERING TIP: Buy a New Bed If you're getting a full eight hours of shut-eye each nght, you're spending a full third of your life in bed. Even if you get by with less sleep than you need, that's still a major chunk of your life. While you are sleeping, your pillow, sheets, blankets, and mattress are absorbing your energy and that of whoever is sharing your bed. When a long-term relationship ends, the person who leaves gets a fresh start and whoever keeps the furniture keeps all that old energy with it. If you are still sleeping on the same bed that you used during a marriage or long-term relationship that is now over, you are sleeping in energy that holds you in the past. This is why feng shui experts advise getting a new bed following a divorce. Given the cost of furniture, buying a new bed may not be an option for everyone who is starting over alone. Do not try to economize by getting a second-hand bed or mattress! If you think sleeping in your own old energy is yucky, why would you want to sleep in a stranger's energetic nest? If you can afford a new mattress and box spring, this is a great time to get them. And if you feel inspired to get a new bed frame, too, that's even better. If you can't afford a complete fresh start, do at least spring for (in order of priority): new pillows; new sheets; a new mattress pad; new blankets. May all your relationships be joyful and fulfilling,

Feng
Shui Q+A (Most questions will have been edited for clarity and length, and any identifying details have been changed. Please note that due to the high volume of email I receive, it is no longer possible for me to respond to every question personally. I still welcome your questions, and if I cannot provide a personal response I will try to address your issue in a future Q+A column.) Q: When placing the ba gua, is the north always in front of me if I stand in the door coming in the room or house? When entering the bedroom, is the west always on my left, or is it according to the real direction in which the west is? A: Oh dear! You seem to be looking it upside down and backwards. I suspect that you are confusing yourself by mixing up the compass directions with the doorway orientation of the ba gua. These are two different methods, and should be approached separately. METHOD A: COMPASS METHOD B: DOORWAY You have to choose which method you are going to follow. Or, you can look at both ba guas separately, and then compare the two to see what you can learn by how they overlap. For example, your career area when determined by the doorway may be in the SW sector of your home. In the compass method, SW is associated with relationships. So now you see that your career area is heavily influenced by relationships. For greater career success, you would be wise to focus on building strong business relationships and doing lots of networking. In my own practice I give more weight to the doorway orientation for interior spaces, but I do look at the compass directions as well for additional insight.

Charity One of the most fundamental prosperity laws is the principle that "it is in giving that we receive." In practicing feng shui we not only realize how connected we are with our everyday environment, but we go beyond and realize we are connected with everything else in the world. What we give does come back.
