FENG SHUI TIPS FOR PROCRASTINATORS by
Stephanie Roberts
Suddenly it's March 1st already and,
as usually happens around this time, I am realizing that I didn't get
my taxes done by the end of February as planned and that I really ought
to do something about them soon. (And I will, I promise, just as soon
as I get this newsletter out…)
This time of year, it seems there are two kinds of people, those who
have filed their tax returns already, and those who will continue to
put it off until the last minute. I start out each year planning, this
time around, to discover what it's like to be in the first category,
and end up, months later, scrambling to avoid falling too far into the
deep end of the "last-minute" pool.
All of this has me pondering whether there's a role feng shui could
play for chronic procrastinators. Procrastination, the putting off until
tomorrow of tasks that could or should be done today, is related to
jen gua (commonly known as the Family area), because this is
the area of the ba gua associated with springtime and new beginnings,
and thus with the ability (or inability) to undertake new projects and
tasks.
Jen gua is located at the middle of the left side of a building or room
(if you follow the modern doorway orientation of the ba gua), or the
east sector if you use the compass. Habitual procrastinators would do
well to pay special attention to this area of their home, office, and
desk by:
1. Removing any clutter that has piled up here. This will free up space
and energy for those tasks awaiting attention.
2. Removing excess metal-type chi, such as round or metallic objects,
which will "cut down" the wood energy associated with this gua.
3. Strengthening wood chi with the addition of plants or green accessories,
and supporting it with water-type cures.
4. Setting up a workspace in jen gua, or storing current project materials/files
there.
5. Placing a small natural crystal on the jen gua area of the desk,
to help with focus and mental clarity.
6. Creating a prioritized checklist of what needs to be done, and keeping
it in a green manila or plastic folder on the left side of the desk.
Often, just putting yourself into motion is the biggest obstacle you'll
have to overcome. When you have addressed jen gua, and have gathered
your current tasks and thoughts, it will be easier to keep going until
you've accomplished what you set out to do and can mark it "done."
If you need more of an incentive, think of something with which to reward
yourself when your task is done. Find a picture of your reward, if appropriate,
or just write what it will be on a piece of paper, and place this reminder
in dui gua (the middle right, or west sector, of a space) which
is associated with autumn and with harvesting the rewards of the efforts
begun in jen gua's spring.
We have
two blue and green "3 Blessings" bracelets to give away this month.
They feature Swarovski crystal beads and three amulets representing
long life, wealth, and happiness. If you'd like a chance to receive
one of these bracelets, send an email with your name and postal
address to:

NATURAL HEALTH INFORMATION
We've been using the Amazon Herb Co. organic rainforest supplements
for a year now, and are really impressed with their effectiveness and
with the company's focus on social and ecological responsibility. The
company founder "Amazon John" Easterling, a dynamic and inspiring speaker,
will be giving public talks in March in NYC, North Carolina, Washington
DC, and Iowa. These events are FREE to the public (pre-registration
may be required if space is limited), and I encourage anyone interested
in achieving optimal health and vitality to attend.

(Most questions will have been edited for clarity
and length, and any identifying details have been changed. Please note
that due to the high volume of email I receive, it is no longer possible
for me to respond to every question personally. I still welcome your
questions, and if I cannot provide a personal response I will try to
address your issue in a future Q+A column.)
Q:There are two doors to my bedroom. Which
one do I use for placing the ba gua?
A: Where there is more than one entry to a room, determining
how to orient the ba gua is based on the following factors (listed here
in order of importance):
1. Which doorway/entry is architecturally more prominent? Can you tell
which door the architect had in mind as the main entry to the room?
It might help to imagine that you were brought into the room blindfolded;
when the blindfold is removed and you look around, which door would
you go to first if you were looking for the main way out?
2. If the doors are the same size and appearance, think about traffic
flow. Chi flows where people go, so if one door is frequently used,
and the other is rarely used, the door used more often is the main one.
Please note that this rule applies only to interior rooms where multiple
entries are identical in size and prominence. This does NOT apply to
the ba gua for the house as a whole. For the entire house, the FRONT
door is always the main entry, even if it is rarely used and a secondary
door is used more often. (Some books say that you can treat a back door
as the main entry if it is the door you use all the time, but this is
NOT correct.)
3. If the doors are equal in size and in traffic, look at what part
of the house each entry leads to/from. Typically one entry will be to
a more active space, main hallway, or the front of the house, and the
other will lead to a smaller hallway, quieter or more "yin" area, or
to the back of the house. The entry that connects the room to the livelier,
louder, more public, or more "yang" parts of the house will be the main
entry.
One click will fund the preservation of 11.4
square feet of endangered rainforest. You don't pay a penny.
Sponsors will pay for the services your click provides. Isn't that cool?
Originally, 6 million square miles of tropical
rainforest existed worldwide. As a result of deforestation, only 2.6
million square miles remain today. The race is on to save our rainforests
and the incredible biodiversity they hold. Last year, visitors to The
Rainforest Site preserved 344,872,210 square feet of land!
Funding generated by The
Rainforest Site goes to pay for rainforest acquisition and management,
ensuring the protection of Earth's biological diversity. The amount
of land protected depends on the number of visitors to The Rainforest
Site. So please click every
day, and spread the word to family and friends!
After a longer-than-expected hiatus, I am once again
available for long-distance feng shui consultations.
Here's how it works: You send me a detailed floor plan and photographs
of your home, along with a completed issues questionnaire, and I review
your information and discuss my feedback and suggestions with you by
phone.
If you are interested in a consultation, please visit our Services
page and download the Off-Site Guidelines (PDF), which provides specific
details about the information that I will need from you.
The consultation fee is based on the size of your home. Details available
on our Services page.
If you are interested in a consultation for an office location, please
