Relationship
Tips - Part 3 This is the third in a multi-part series of quick tips, one for each of the five stages of the feng shui Relationship Cycle presented in Fast Feng Shui for Singles: 108 Ways to Heal Your Home and Attract Romance. The Fast Feng Shui Relationship Cycle is based on the Creative Cycle of the five elements. Each stage of the cycle is associated with the element whose qualities, characteristics, and energy most closely match your situation and goals at that stage of relationship. Phase 3: CONNECTING The Connecting Phase of the Relationship Cycle is associated with the new beginnins and upward growth of the Wood element. In this stage, your focus shifts from meeting new people to exploring possibilities with one particular individual. Now your feng shui strategies are targeted to supporting a budding relationship by creating a home environment that encourages romance. Phase 3 Tip: CREATE A SPACE TO BE TOGETHER Make sure that at least one of your relationship power spots includes a sitting area where the two of you can spend time relaxing together. A pair of comfy chairs in a quiet corner is good; a love seat is even better. If you've got a generously sized hammock in the back yard, move it into Kun gua*. If you've got lounge chairs by the pool, place them side by side in Kun gua of the pool area, with a little round table between them; keep the chairs close enough together so you can reach out and hold hands. Excerpted from "Fast Feng Shui for Singles" by Stephanie Roberts (Lotus Pond Press, 2002) *Kun gua (relationship corner) is the far right corner as you face the room from the doorway. Feng
Shui Q+A (Most questions will have been edited for clarity and length, and any identifying details have been changed. Please note that due to the high volume of email I receive, it is no longer possible for me to respond to every question personally. I still welcome your questions, and if I cannot provide a personal response I will try to address your issue in a future Q+A column.) Q: Is it bad if a door and window face each other? A: Usually, no. A key guideline to understand is that when the front and back doors of a house are directly opposite each other, with no rooms in between, the chi entering the front door will go straight through the house and out the back door. Sometimes a very large window opposite the main door can have a similar effect, although it is not as strong as a door. The doorways to individual rooms in the home are less important in their overall effect on the home, although of course they affect that specific room. When you open this door, is your vision and attention immediately and strongly pulled to whatever is outside the window? Where your attention goes, that's where chi goes. If your attention immediately goes out the window, is this view positive and uplifting, or unattractive and depressing? Anything unattractive has low chi, so in this case you may want to cover the window with sheer curtains, or hang a faceted crystal ball inside the window. Another option is to use stronger colors or larger, more vibrant artwork, or a different placement of furniture in the room to draw attention away from the window.
