Very Quick Tip

It's mid-summer, the time of year associated with Li gua (fame and illumination). A vase of big, bold sunflowers in the South sector of your house, the Li area of your living room, or beside a south-facing doorway perfectly expresses the sun-filled exuberance of this season and boosts your energy and reputation.

Relationship Tips - Part 5

This is the last in a multi-part series of quick tips, one for each of the five stages of the feng shui Relationship Cycle presented in Fast Feng Shui for Singles: 108 Ways to Heal Your Home and Attract Romance. You can read the previous tips in the series in our archives.

The Fast Feng Shui Relationship Cycle is based on the Creative Cycle of the five elements. Each stage of the cycle is associated with the element whose qualities, characteristics, and energy most closely match your situation and goals at that stage of relationship.

Phase 5: UNITING

The Uniting stage of a relationship is associated with the stable and nurturing qualities of the Earth element. Here you and your love are ready to make a commitment and build a life together, and you either become engaged or decide to live together. Now your feng shui strategies are aimed at supporting a stable and long-lasting partnership filled with peace, joy, and love.

Phase 5 Tip: SYMBOLS OF FIDELITY

In traditional Chinese culture, a pair of cranes or mandarin ducks symbolizes fidelity, honesty, and longevity. A pair of butterflies is another symbol of conjugal love. Any of these are an appropriate image to enhance your bedroom or any other Kun gua power spot.

~

This brings us to completion of the Relationship Cycle and its five phases:
Phase 1: CENTERING
Phase 2: EXPLORING
Phase 3: CONNECTING
Phase 4: LOVING
Phase 5: UNITING

Obviously, not all relationships make it through all phases of the cycle. If they did, we'd all still be paired up with our high school sweethearts. The rate at which you move through each stage can vary tremendously, too. Sometimes you can go from Connecting to Loving in a matter of hours, and there will always be a lucky few who connect with someone while they are still in the Centering stage and skip over Exploring completely.

What usually happens, when things happen that quickly, is that you end up backtracking at some point and doing the work of earlier stages that you may have rushed through or skipped over. Here are some journaling questions to help you think about your romantic life-as it is now and as it has been in the past-in terms of the Relationship Cycle:

- What phase of the cycle are you in now?
- What do you like and not like about this phase?
- Is there a particular phase at which most of your past relationships have ended?
- If so, why do you think that is?
- What phase feels safest and most comfortable for you? Why?
- What stage is the most difficult for you? Why?

Feng Shui Q+A

(Most questions will have been edited for clarity and length, and any identifying details have been changed. Please note that due to the high volume of email I receive, it is no longer possible for me to respond to every question personally. I still welcome your questions, and if I cannot provide a personal response I will try to address your issue in a future Q+A column.)

Q: In your book, you say that "li gua is always at the center of the wall opposite you." If my front door is to the left of the house (looking into the house), does it mean that my house is missing most of the hsun, jen, and ken areas?

A: No. Assuming that your home is basically rectangular in shape, you are not missing those guas. It is a common misunderstanding that Li gua is always opposite the door, or that the ba gua is always placed so that Kan gua is at the door. These are only true if the door is in the middle of the wall. If the door is in Ken gua (off-center to the left), then Hsun gua is directly opposite the door. If the door is in Chien gua (off-center to the right) then Kun gua is directly across from the door. Li gua is always in the center of the far wall.

Li gua is always in the center of the wall
that is opposite the door; this does not mean
it is always directly across from the door
itself, unless the door is in Kan gua.

Infinite Possibilities:
The Art of Living Your Dream

" There is nothing you can't do, nothing you can't have, and nothing you can't be..." Mike Dooley

Our favorite listening this summer are these inspiring and insightful commentaries on life and the nature of reality by Mike Dooley. We listen to at least a few minutes every day, and are eager to reach the end of the set so we can start all over again! (And we've already listened to some of the first discs several times.)

A perfect complement to feng shui, the "Infinite Possibilities" audio tapes/CDs will help you understand why the focus of your intention is so important to creating successful change, and how to shift the inner mindsets that can hold us back from manifesting all that we desire.

Topics include:

  • How the power of your thoughts shapes the events and circumstances of your life.
  • How to detect and work with your beliefs to align them with the life of your dreams.
  • How to make your intentions known to the Universe, and how you can instantly change the direction of your life.
  • Understanding your true nature as a spiritual being
  • How to move with, and understand, your relationships to maximize the learning and rewards they promise.
  • Philosophical and penetrating answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about life, dreams and happiness. ... and lots more!

We think these tapes/CDs are worth every penny and more -- and are confident that you will, too. And Mike's 100% money-back guarantee means it's totally risk free!

Click here for more info and testimonials (and be sure to check out Mike's great selection of e-cards and other stuff, too.)
