Wellness
& Holistic Feng Shui You may be wondering if you missed an issue of this newsletter, but the truth is that this one is long overdue. A family visit, tax season, and pressing deadlines on a number of important projects have all coincided these past few weeks to keep us even busier than usual. I just haven't had the time and attention to get this issue out on schedule. As I've pushed to get essential tasks done each day, wondering how and when I'll be able to catch up, the issues of life balance and self-care have been on my mind lately. Partly this is due to my own too-hefty to-do list, but it has also come up each time I've seen television ads for a new product that promises to eliminate the symptoms of fatique with one little pill a day. The main ingredient of this aggressively promoted product (according to their website) is 100mg of caffeine! I have to say that this punches all of my buttons about the short-sighted, symptom-driven focus of modern medicine and the perils of our quick-fix culture. Folks, if you are so fatigued you have to struggle to get through the day, your body is sending you an urgent message to slow down and get some rest! Popping a pill so you can keep going, instead of listening to your body's cry for help, is a sure path to serious health problems down the road. There are four keys to natural wellness: rest and stress-reduction; moderate exercise; cleansing the body of the accumulated toxins that are unavoidable in our modern environments; and providing your organ systems with the high-quality organic nutrition that is no longer provided by our commercial food supply. The bottom line for most people is that we don't take care of ourselves the way we should, and the result is that degenerative diseases such as arthritis, diabetes, heart disease and cancer are rampant in our society today. What does this have to do with feng shui? Well, Fast Feng Shui Principle #8 is to "Work on Yourself as Well as Your Home." Think of it this way... The concepts and practices of both traditional and contemporary Western feng shui emerge from the key understanding that everything in our experience is connected on an energetic level. Usually, we focus on feng shui from the outside in: how the specific characteristics of the spaces that we inhabit affect various aspects of our lives, such as career, wealth, and relationships. Because everything is connected energetically, however, we can also approach feng shui from the inside out. I've addressed some of the personal growth aspects of feng shui in earlier articles, but physical self-care is important as well. When you don’t take appropriate care of yourself physically, it's harder to fully appreciate the benefits of feng shui. This is because when your body is not in good health -- especially when that results from poor dietary choices (which lead to inefficient digestion and a toxic gut) -- you are literally blocking the flow of chi on a cellular level. It's easy to see that clearing clutter from your home is an essential aspect of feng shui, but to truly support energetic changes you should also be doing what you can to clear physical clutter (excess weight, cellular debris and toxins, digestive system congestion, etc.) from your body as well. In other words, the healthier your lifestyle, the more you will get from feng shui. It is no surprise to me that people who eat primarily organic vegetarian diets and who meditate and exercise regularly usually have homes with pretty good feng shui. Because their bodies are less cluttered with debris, excess weight and unresolved emotional issues, and they have developed a strong connection with Spirit, they are naturally more in tune with their environments. Whether consiously or intuitively, they tend to choose homes with "good energy," arrange furnishings and accessories in harmonious ways, and select imagery with care and insight. I can be as guilty as the next person of grabbing a sweet snack instead of preparing a healthy meal, of skipping a workout because I feel tired, of being too busy to meditate, and of not managing my time to get the full amount of rest I need -- but I try to keep those lapses to a minimum. I made a promise to myself many years ago that I would never compromise my health in the name of business. In addition to allowing some things to not get done (like getting this issue of the newsletter out on time!), I also do what I can to keep my body healthy and happy through an organic diet, high-quality herbal nutrition, and internal cleansing and detoxification. If you are serious about using feng shui to help create desired improvements in your life experience, please pay attention to your physical well-being as well. Our recommended Wellness Resource, below, is a good way to get started on that. In fact, without the benefits I've seen from using these products, I probably would still be at least a week away from getting this newsletter -- and many other tasks -- done. Wishing you joy and well-being in all things, Stephanie

Shui Q+A (Most questions will have been edited for clarity and length, and any identifying details have been changed. Please note that due to the high volume of email I receive, it is no longer possible for me to respond to every question personally. I still welcome your questions, and if I cannot provide a personal response I will try to address your issue in a future Q+A column.) Q: Can you help me figure out which is my front door? There is a solid door facing North, which is the one that we can see as we come up the driveway, which looks like the main door, yet we never use it. Our driveway goes around the house and we park the cars at the back of the house (or is it the front?). We always use the kitchen door which faces south, and when we have visitors they also use the kitchen door. A: The answer is in the details of your question. You say... "There is a solid door facing North, which is the one that we can see as we come up the driveway, which looks like the main door" If it looks like the main door, it probably is the main door. And if it faces the street, that's an important factor as well. Imagine that you are coming to the house for the first time; this would stand out for you as the main door. It doesn't matter whether or not you ever use it (although you should use it at least once a week to keep the chi flowing there). You describe driving around to the "back" of the house because to you it feels like the "back," right? And that door opens directly into the kitchen, which also has a "back door" feeling. So that's not going to be the front door energetically, regardless of how often you use it. Of course, since you do use that kitchen door a lot, you'll want to make sure that area has good feng shui as well. But if you are placing the ba gua according to the front door, use the North door as the main one. Featured
Resource We started using Amazon Herb Company "Rainforest BioEnergetics" products about two months ago, and are amazed by their potency and effectiveness. We've tried many, many kinds and brands of herbal cleanses and nutritional supplements over the years (from GNC bargains to CellTech algaes to expensive healthfood store brands), and in our experience these are by far the best. I wish I'd started using them years ago! Within hours of starting on these products, my focus and mental clarity increased, my energy level was more stable, and that dreaded afternoon energy slump was gone. As I've continued with the products my sugar cravings have vanished, my digestion is significantly improved, and my PMS moodiness and fatigue have disappeared. Both Taraka and I are sleeping better and waking up earlier and more refreshed. Our workouts are easier and recovery time is shorter. And although we did get a cold a couple of weeks ago, our symptoms were milder than usual and the acute phase was both less intense and much shorter than we expected. These unique products provide high-density nutrition from organic rainforest botanicals that have been used by South American tribes for centuries (perhaps millenia) for stamina, mental alertness, and overall health. Charity One click will fund the preservation of 11.4 square feet of endangered rainforest. You don't pay a penny. Sponsors will pay for the services your click provides. Isn't that cool? Originally, 6 million square miles of tropical rainforest existed worldwide. As a result of deforestation, only 2.6 million square miles remain today. The race is on to save our rainforests and the incredible biodiversity they hold. Funding generated by The Rainforest Site goes to pay for rainforest acquisition and management, ensuring the protection of Earth's biological diversity. The amount of land protected depends on the number of visitors to The Rainforest Site. So please click every day, and spread the word to family and friends!
