The Aromas of Feng Shui The underlying principle of feng shui is that we are intimately connected to and affected by our environments on an energetic level. Often we focus primarily on improving the visible aspects of our home: changing colors, arranging furniture to create more attractive and welcoming rooms, selecting appropriate imagery for our walls. It’s important to remember that feng shui involves all the senses. Bad smells of any kind are a form of sha chi (negative energy), and should be corrected immediately--whether that’s a simple task like taking out the trash more frequently or as extensive an effort as tearing out and replacing the funky old carpeting throughout your home. The emotional impact of aromas can be very powerful. Real estate agents who suggest that home sellers bake bread or brownies before an open house may not think of this as a feng shui strategy, but it certainly qualifies. The enticing aroma makes the house seem more welcoming, and triggers positive associations in prospective buyers. Fresh, fragrant flowers are a wonderful way to bring positive energy into your home. Place them in the living room, kitchen, and/or bedroom to enhance the chi of these important rooms. Change the water daily, and remove flowers as soon as they begin to wilt. Wishing you joy and success,
