   Career Tips - Part 1

Aloha, friends, and welcome to our new subscribers,

So many recent subscribers have mentioned "Career" as an issue, I decided to use the next few newsletter issues to share some career-oriented feng shui tips.

As most of you probably know, the "Career" area - kan gua - is located in the central front section of a space (when you place the ba gua according to the front door). It is also associated with North on the compass. Its element is water, and its traditional colors are black and dark blue.

Feng shui distinguishes between two types of water energy: still and moving. Still water is calm and serene, and has to do with wisdom, deep understanding, and intuition. Moving water carries the energy of communication and making connections, and is associated with a healthy cash flow.

Think about which kind of water energy will most assist you in your career. If you are networking to find a better job, then moving water is the energy you want to tap. Still water may be helpful to those who hope to move up to a position of greater responsibility, wisdom being one of the key qualities of a good leader. Entrepreneurs and self-employed professionals are likely to benefit from both kinds of water energy in marketing their services and building a strong customer base.

Good moving water "cures" for kan gua include water fountains and imagery of ocean waves, waterfalls, or rivers. For still water, use a fish bowl, a picture of a tranquil pond or lake, or a small bowl of water with a flower blossom floating in it. Black and dark blues have stronger "still water" energy, while the paler aquas have more "moving water" energy. Although in traditional Chinese feng shui pale blue is considered a yin wood color, I like the aqua blues for moving water energy. After all, these shades are called "aqua" because they are the color of water. Always be guided by your own reaction; if a color looks like water to you, then for you it has water energy. And remember to change the water often if you are using a fountain or water bowl; brown, smelly, slimy, or stagnant is not good water chi!

With warm aloha, and best wishes for your career success,
