Career Tips- Part 3
In the last issue of this newsletter we explored the idea of activating related guas to assist your career. In addition to working with li gua* (see Career Tips Part 2), another good area to work with is chien gua: Helpful Friends. This is the area to the right of kan gua (the Career area), in the front right corner of the ba gua map. It is also associated with the northwest direction.

By clearing and activating chien gua, you can more easily gain the assistance of others in helping you find a new job or advance in your current position. Think of chien gua as the area to work with if you need to:
- Get a good reference from a previous employer
- Gain stronger efforts on your behalf from a job-placement firm
- Be more seriously considered for a promotion or an important new assignment
- Connect with a sponsor or mentor for long-term guidance and advice
Chien gua governs not only formal assistance, but also helpful coincidences and the kind deeds of strangers. By activating this area with feng shui, you make it more likely that you will benefit from lucky encounters, experiences, and synchronicities.
The element associated with chien gua is metal. Grey is the primary color for chien gua, although white and black can also be used here. All metallic colors (silver, gold, bronze) are good as well. The shape associated with the metal element is round, so nine coins in a round black bowl would be a good activator for career success in chien gua. Metal is created by earth, so earth-type objects and colors are also good here.
