FENG SHUI QUICK TIP 22

Place a mirror in a small or narrow entry

What do you see when you enter your front door? If there is a wall less than six feet in front of you, it may be blocking your ability to move forward in your life. The best solution for this is to put a large mirror on that wall:

Make sure the mirror is positioned so you can see yourself fully in it when you enter. If there are others living in your home, be sure to use a mirror that is large enough and hung so that you can each see yourselves when entering. If the mirror is too small, too low, or too high to suit some family members, their self-perception may be affected.

Some feng shui experts feel that a mirror directly opposite the door will bounce the chi right back out again. In my opinion this will depend on the specific circumstances of your entryway, and on what is reflected in the mirror. It is just as likely that the mirror will expand and brighten the space, welcoming more chi in. Try a mirror, and see how it feels.

If you don’t want to place a mirror in your entry, or it just doesn’t look right with your décor, another solution is to hang a landscape painting or photograph in the place where a mirror would go. The image should be large and have a distant horizon; this will visually open up the space and allow you to “see” into the distance.

Another problem, the “pinched nose” entry, occurs when the front door opens onto a very narrow hallway. This is thought to restrict the flow of chi and opportunities into the home. A pinched nose entry can be corrected by mirroring the wall onto which the door opens:

INTENTION—As you install a mirror in your entry, focus on removing any constrictions that are affecting that specific gua and that may be inhibiting your ability to move forward in your life.

AFFIRMATION—When you are done, make a statement to support your intention, such as: “I now easily and effectively embrace new opportunities and make easy progress on my life’s path.

VISUALIZATION—Take a moment to stand in your entryway and experience how much more expansive that area feels with the mirror in place. Visualize new opportunities appearing to you, and see yourself making easy progress toward a specific goal.
